Kikyo

She is the young priestess in charge of protecting the Shikon Jewel. Kikyo is the older sister of Lady Kaede, who was betrayed by Naraku(disguised as Inuyasha) as revenge for her rejecting the love of his former human self, Onigumo. Kikyo died as result of Naraku's betrayal and the Shikon jewel was burned with her body on her funeral pyre(it later resufaced inside Kagome's body as proof that she is Kikyo's reimcarnation). Kikyo was also revived by the witch Urasue, but her revival was incomplete and Kagome got almost all of her soul back. The part that remains seems centered on Kikyo's hatred for Inuyasha (due to the "betrayal"). Slowly she seems to be trying to get her back to the way she once was,as for whether or not she'll ultimately wind up her old self, it remains to be seen (it seems like she wants to be the way she was and yet...). As for now she's out to destroy Inuyasha. Others around her can sense she's not human(the poor Buddist monk whose magic was turned against him by her & killed) and yet there are some who see her as human(the village she settled in before meeting the monk). It also seems Inuyasha still has feelings for her since he's out o avenge her death.

Note: her name means behavior or daily life. when spelled Kikyou it means Chinese bellflower.
